In the first half of 2011, China imported 267,700 tons of pipes, an increase of 13.2% year-on-year. Imports of seamless pipes totaled 130,500 tons, an increase of 3.5% year-on-year; welded pipe imports were 163,300 tons, a year-on-year increase of 25.3%. The varieties with the largest increase in imports were geological drilling seamless pipes and oil and gas drilling sleeves, which increased by 116.3% and 23.3% respectively, and imported 0.11 million tons and 0.31 million tons respectively.
The major types of seamless pipes imported were boiler pipes and other seamless pipes. In the first half of the year, they imported 43,200 tons and 44,900 tons, respectively, down by 2.5% and 0.1% respectively year-on-year. The main importing countries are Japan and Germany.
The main types of welded pipe imports were other welded pipes, with imports of 112,600 tons, an increase of 11.1% over the same period last year. The main importing countries are Japan and South Korea.
Imports of cast iron pipes were 22,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 22%.
