However, what caused Zong Qing’s concern was that consumers knew very little about how to identify genetically modified foods, and they did not know whether the companies producing genetically modified foods were marked according to the law, and the consumption information was asymmetric, opaque and untimely, resulting in the current issue of genetic modification. Zong Qinghou called for "to protect every consumer's right to know and strictly implement the labeling system for genetically modified products."
Zong Qinghou suggested that the legislative level for raising issues related to genetically modified foods should be formally legislated by the National People's Congress as soon as possible, and the identification system for genetically modified foods should be determined in the form of national laws.
In addition, he believes that it is necessary for law enforcement agencies to strengthen the supervision of law enforcement on issues concerning the labeling of genetically modified foods, and impose penalties on companies that have not faithfully labelled the products according to the law.
