According to foreign media reports, battery manufacturer GS Yuasa announced that it will provide industry-leading dual-chemistry battery technology for the Portsmouth (Portsmouth) Port Energy System Optimization (PESO) frontier project.
The project aims to provide electricity for electric vehicle charging and support the local power grid, and will be piloted at Portsmouth International Port. The core of this project is a dual-chemical (lead acid and lithium ion) hybrid energy storage system that will contribute to the plan developed by the Portsmouth City Council, which is hailed as "the city's most environmentally friendly budget ever." .
When it comes to rapid charging of electric vehicles, the available power in many commercial locations is limited, which is a big problem. Normally, the charging power of medium-sized shops or car showrooms is 30-50kW, while the battery capacity of standard electric vehicles ranges from 50kWh to 90kWh, so fast charging will make the grid collapse. GS Yuasa's most advanced containerized solution avoids expensive underground mining and does not need to be redistributed through the power grid, which greatly reduces project costs and environmental impact.
The new GS Yuasa dual-chemical energy storage system will be in the form of a windproof shelter and can provide 100kW of electricity. The system will use lithium ion technology and standard lead acid Yuasa ENL battery technology. GS Yuasa is located in the Ebbw Vale factory in Wales, responsible for the production of these batteries, and complete the assembly and integration process of the entire system. The lithium battery of the system comes from Japan, allowing electric vehicles to be quickly charged during the day, and the electricity price is lower, which can save time and money, and help meet environmental demands. Mike Sellers, Portsmouth International Port Director, said: "We said before that we will take bold action to become the first zero-emission port in the UK. This innovative project shows that we want to be at the forefront of sustainable energy research , These studies will help us achieve this goal."
The PESO project is a two-year project jointly funded by Innovate UK. The pilot included three innovations. First, GS Yuasa experts designed a dual-chemical battery system to meet specific port requirements; second, through advanced management software to optimize on-site energy generation; third, the development of a smart port grid foundation facility. In order to achieve the 2030 carbon neutrality goal, all three aspects will play an important role.
Mark Greer, General Manager of Sales, Reserve and Renewable Energy, GS Yuasa Battery Sales Ltd, UK, said: "As the demand for green energy products increases, we are pleased to introduce a viable solution that is easy to integrate. We are committed to Various applications provide the latest and best battery technology." (Elisha)
