India may control imports of aluminum from China by imposing temporary tariffs

CBI Metals India's government may control imports of aluminum from China through the imposition of temporary tariffs. In the current fiscal year, India’s imports of aluminum from China have more than doubled.
“India Economic Times” quoted an unnamed official from the Ministry of Commerce as saying on the 19th that the Indian government may adopt temporary tariff measures to control the amount of aluminum imports from China. It is expected that India's imports of aluminum from China will increase by 142% this year to 800,000 tons.
The report also stated that according to a report of the Defense Agency, the Defense Committee will decide to impose a tariff rate on imported aluminum, but the report did not specify when the measure will take effect.
The report also stated that after initially confirming the surge in imports, the government can implement temporary protection measures for a period of six months. If the government can prove that imports have disrupted the domestic market, the time for the implementation of protective measures can be extended to three years. (Source: World Financial News)
