[China Aluminum Network] C92200 copper alloy is a Cu-Sn-Zn-Pb alloy. It is a kind of tin bronze. It used to be called “M” navy bronze and steam equipment bronze. It has a long history and is widely available. Applications, typical uses: valves and flange castings, oil pumps, gears, bushings, bearings, babbitt alloy bushing shaft bearings, and pressure vessel parts with temperatures ≤ 290°C, pressure ≤ 20N/mm2.

Chemical composition (mass%)

C92200 alloy is also known as 88-6-1.5-4.5 bronze, its chemical composition: Cu86.0 ~ 96.0, Sn5.5 ~ 6.5, Pb1.0 ~ 2.0, Zn3.0 ~ 5.0, Ni1.0, Fe0. 25, P0.05 (with P content up to 1.5), S0.05, Si0.005, Sb0.25.

Mechanical properties

Typical tensile properties of the sand-type single-cast bar: Tensile strength Rm = 275 N/mm2, Yield strength Rp0.5 = 140 N/mm2, Elongation A50 = 30%, see drawing.

C92200 alloy 20 °C density 8.64g/cm3, solidification shrinkage rate 16mm/m; thermal properties: liquidus temperature 990 °C, solidus temperature 825 °C, Pb initial melting temperature 315 °C, 20 °C specific heat capacity 376J / ( Kg·k), thermal conductivity at 70°C/(m·k) at 20°C; electromagnetic characteristics: volume conductivity of 14.3% IACS at 20°C, resistivity of 120 nΩ·m, magnetic permeability of 1.0.

Process performance

The cutting performance of C92200 alloy is still acceptable, 4.2% of that of the easy-to-cut brass C36000 alloy; the brazing and brazing properties of the alloy should be performed in the hot brittle temperature region to avoid deformation during welding and subsequent cooling. Not suitable for oxygen welding and various forms of arc welding. Casting stress relief annealing temperature 260 °C.
