In October 2006, Nisshin Motor will launch an instantaneous voltage reduction countermeasure device (instantaneous low safety device) using an independently developed electric double layer capacitor. The instantaneous low-security device is a device for compensating for the voltage drop of the production line due to lightning strikes, etc., and the company has previously introduced a device using an aluminum electrolytic capacitor and a lead battery power source. Nisshin Electric said: "The use of electric double-layer capacitors for power supplies can increase the advantages that previous products do not have, thus adding new products."




Specifically, when an electric double layer capacitor is used, the aluminum electrolytic capacitor can extend the compensation time of only 0.35 seconds to 1 to 10 seconds, and it is possible to more securely protect an important production line such as a semiconductor factory. In addition, when the compensation time is longer than 1 second, a device smaller than an aluminum electrolytic capacitor can be produced.




With lead-acid batteries, the power supply needs to be replaced every few years, and the new product can be replaced in 15 years without the need to replace the power supply, thus reducing maintenance costs. In addition, unlike the lead storage battery, since the electric double layer capacitor does not contain lead, it is more environmentally friendly.




Will be used in automotive and wind power generation in the future.




The company plans to introduce a low-level safety device with a 200kVA electric double-layer capacitor for the switchboards of semiconductor devices and production lines. It is estimated that the number of production units in the first year will be about 10,000 to 20,000 units. In the future, after reducing the cost of products through overseas production bases, this product will be used for auxiliary power supplies for automobiles and output balance devices for wind power generation.




The details of the electric double-layer capacitor independently developed by Nisshin Electric have not been disclosed yet. It is said that the energy density of this product can be as high as about 100 times that of aluminum electrolytic capacitor. The developed unit has a size of 10 cm x 13 cm x about 3 cm. The rated voltage is 2V ~ 3V. The electrostatic capacity is 1500F. The company will build a mass production line for electric double layer capacitor units.
