HC Plastics News: Japan's Komatsu Refinery and FANUC developed a technology for manufacturing high-strength carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) products using injection molding machines. The carbon fiber length of the product is 5mm and the content is 35%, which is longer than the carbon fiber in the traditional product and high in content.
After the injection molding product is expected to be put on the market, the company's comprehensive sales revenue will increase from about 38 billion yen to about 50 billion yen by 2025. Among them, the carbon fiber business will reach 5 billion yen.
The project was completed by both parties, with Komatsu refining responsible for material design and FANUC responsible for injection molding technology.
The molded article made of the thermoplastic CFRP material "CABKOMAKB chip" independently developed by Komatsu was 150 N/mm 2 and had a bending strength of 260 N/mm 2 . The bending strength is about 3 times that of polycarbonate. The future direction of research and development is to increase the intensity by 50% compared with the current level.
Komatsu refining is developing a carbon fiber building materials application market, and has developed and successfully produced CFRP screws and joint plates. For the seismic reinforcement of building materials, the prevention of corrosion of metal screws and nails, and the deterioration of wood due to condensation.
At the same time, Komatsu refining is taking advantage of its fiber textile manufacturing technology to expand its carbon fiber business. Seismic reinforcement ropes and lifting fences have been put into practical use. Anchor plate projects to prevent landslides are also underway.
