Polypropylene is obtained by catalytic polymerization of propylene using a Ziegler - Natta catalyst, which is a crystalline isotactic polymer in which molecular chain links are well aligned. The English name of polypropylene is Polypropylene , referred to as PP , commonly known as 100% plastic. Polypropylene can be divided into isotactic polypropylene and random polypropylene according to its crystallinity. Isotactic polypropylene is a highly crystalline thermoplastic resin with crystallinity of over 95% and molecular weight between 8 and 150,000 . Propylene is mainly isotactic polypropylene. The random polypropylene is a non-crystalline, slightly viscous white wax at room temperature with a low molecular weight ( 3000 to 10000 ). The structure is irregular and lacks cohesion, and the application is less.
Polypropylene ( PP ) is widely used as a thermoplastic polymer in the field of plastics. The properties and uses of the polymers obtained vary depending on the catalyst used and the polymerization process. PP has many useful properties, but it also lacks inherent toughness, especially at temperatures below its glass transition temperature. However, by adding an impact modifier, the impact resistance can be improved.
