Recently, the team of academician Yu Shuhong and the team of Professor Gao Minrui of the University of Science and Technology of China proposed a "crystal phase mixing" strategy and successfully designed and developed an inexpensive metal electrocatalyst exhibiting high stability in acid electrolytes. Compared with the traditional process, the proton exchange membrane water electrolysis device has the obvious advantages of fast start-up speed, high hydrogen purity, fast hydrogen production rate, large current density and high energy efficiency, and is expected to become the next generation of advanced clean hydrogen production methods. However, the current acidic electrolyzed water membrane electrode relies on platinum-based catalysts, resulting in excessively high hydrogen production costs, which greatly limits the application and promotion of proton exchange membrane water electrolysis cells.
The crystal phase is the crystalline microstructure, which is determined by the conformation and arrangement of the polymer chains in the crystal. The researchers subjected the cubic phase of cobalt diselenide to "rigorous" alkali heat treatment, which caused part of the cobalt diselenide crystal phase to change from the cubic phase to the orthogonal phase, and successfully prepared a novel mixed phase cobalt diselenide structure . This mixed structure exhibits excellent water reduction electrochemical activity and stability performance in acidic media, far superior to the pure cubic phase or the pure orthogonal phase. Electrochemical tests show that in 50,000 cycles and more than 400 hours After working, it still has super stability.
