The sodium-sulfur battery energy storage project is a strategic demand for new energy and smart power grids of the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Shanghai Electric (Group) Corporation, the State Grid Corporation of Shanghai Electric Power Co., Ltd. The energy storage technology industrialization project is one of the three major breakthroughs in the “one to three-five†plan of the Shanghai Silicate Institute.
After nearly three years of hard work, the sodium-sulfur battery energy storage project has completed the main work of battery performance improvement and product development, and scale preparation of technical route demonstration, through the production line, the formation of stereotyped products and off the assembly line. The module product passed the third-party inspection and factory acceptance in September 2014 and was delivered to Shanghai Electric Power to carry out the application demonstration of the power station project.
The overall energy storage capacity of the power station is 1.2 MWH. It adopts an outdoor stacker design and is an important part of the national science and technology support program project "smart grid integrated demonstration project characterized by large-scale renewable energy utilization". On December 24th, relevant responsible persons and experts from the Ministry of Science and Technology and the State Grid Corporation of China went to Chongming for field research and highly affirmed the progress in the application of sodium-sulfur power station engineering.
The three parties of the sodium-sulfur battery energy storage project will further work on the battery engineering reliability and market-oriented technology and economic efficiency for different applications, and actively expand the application scope and project scale of the sodium-sulfur storage power station; meanwhile, the product line will be developed. Introduced a new generation of sodium-sulfur battery technology and products.
