Sinopec's First Carbon Eight Extraction Styrene Plant Starts

On October 10th, Sinopec's first 2.7-million-ton/year carbon extraction styrene plant construction project was started at Yanshan Petrochemical and will be completed next year.

The device was jointly developed by Sinopec and GTC of the United States and was divided into four units: prefractionation, phenylacetylene hydrogenation, and styrene extraction and product extraction. The styrene in the carbon 8 fraction was separated by extraction distillation and then After decolorization and refining, styrene products are produced, which have the advantages of short technological process, low energy consumption, fewer equipments, less investment, and less sewage discharge. The project fully relies on Yanshan Petrochemical's existing reserved land, public engineering facilities, storage facilities, auxiliary production facilities, and welfare facilities. It is expected that it will create economic benefits of more than 60 million yuan per year after completion.
