Alkaline bath grading austempering agent

[Medium composition] Isothermal graded alkali bath formula (mass fraction) and melting and use temperature are shown in Table 3-l.

【The main purpose】

1 Alkaline bath medium is generally suitable for carbon alloy steel workpieces with small cross-section and complex shape, such as carbon steel with size <10~15mm and low alloy steel tool with diameter <20~30mm.

2 pairs of alloy steel with good hardenability are not limited by the size of the parts.

3 Alkaline bath media is also suitable for quenching and cooling of large size, low hardenability steel workpieces.

4 It is often used for workpieces with thin walls, slender shapes, complex shapes, precise dimensional requirements, and high toughness, such as forming tools, molds, and springs.

[Precautions for use]

1 During the use of the alkali bath, it is necessary to periodically deoxygenate with the yellow blood salt [K4(FeCN)6]. When deoxidizing, the amount of freshly prepared alkali solution should be about 0.5% of the weight of the bath. Excessive or insufficient amount of yellow blood salt will cause a yellowish brown surface after quenching.

2 For the workpiece which is not bright after the austempering, it can be added to the alkali tank for 2~5min, and then taken out and placed in hot water of >60°C for cooling to improve the surface brightness of the workpiece.

3 lye absorbs carbon dioxide in the air. Partially turned into sodium carbonate, the lye fluidity is deteriorated, the liquid surface produces brown-red foam, and the cooling capacity of the alkali bath is gradually reduced; impurities such as Fe ((OH) are brought into the alkali bath by the workpiece clamp, the hanger, and the suction device. 2, BaCl2, NaCl, KCl, etc., will also reduce the cooling capacity.

4 The surface of the alkali bath appears yellowish brown. In addition to regular replacement, 1% to 3% BaO or Ba(OH)2 may be added to remove the generated BaCO3 and mechanical impurities, and a new base is added.

Nitrate salt isothermal quenching agent

[Quenching agent composition] The formulation ratio (mass fraction), melting point and normal temperature of various nitrate salt isothermal quenching media are shown in Table 3-2.

Table 3-3 is recommended when the steel parts stay in the nitrate salt during the staged quenching.

It can be seen from the above table that when the temperature is constant, the larger the workpiece size, the longer the isothermal time is required; when the part size is constant, the higher the isothermal temperature, the shorter the isothermal time is required.

1 It is often used for thin, thin and complex shapes with precise requirements and requires high toughness workpieces such as forming tools, molds and springs.
