Mitsubishi Materials Tools Introduces Special Tool for Aluminum Alloy Processing

The Mitsubishi Materials Tool (Headquarters: Tokyo) has developed the AXD7000, an aluminum alloy machining tool with a replaceable cutter head. It is characterized by high speed rotation by improving the fixing method of the blade and the shape of the blade. It is suitable for the aircraft industry where most of the components are cut from aluminum alloy.

The AXD7000 holds the blade tightly with two screws, and also uses the "blade scattering prevention mechanism" developed by the company to prevent the centrifugal force from being pulled out at high speed. When using a tool with a cutting edge diameter of 50 mm, the maximum machining speed is 30,000 rpm.

By adopting the spiral flank face and optimizing the back angle, a low resistance blade shape with a large rake angle is realized without reducing the strength of the cutting edge. The combination of the above mechanism and the low-resistance blade enables the chip discharge amount to reach 9000 cc/min when using a 50 mm blade tool. In addition, high-precision machining is possible by using a spiral blade and improved blade grinding technology.

Rod-type tool holders and inserts with a cutting edge diameter of 32 to 40 mm are scheduled to be launched on April 15, 2008. Mandrel-type tool holders with a cutting edge diameter of 50 to 125 mm will be available on June 2 of the same year. In terms of price, the blade is 3,360 yen (including tax), the rod type tool holder is 60,478 yen (including tax), and the mandrel type tool holder is 82,110 yen (including tax).
