Panasonic prototype solar cell reaches the highest global conversion rate of 24.7%

According to the report of the "Japan Economic News" published on February 11, the test of Japan's National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology shows that Panasonic prototype solar cells have reached the highest rate of 24.7% in the world.

This result broke the 24.2% record set by the US company SunPower (SPWR). The 24.2% conversion rate was considered the highest in the world by Progress in Photovoltaics, an authoritative international journal.

The surface film developed by Panasonic can transmit more sunlight and the electrode power transmission efficiency is higher. The company’s goal is to commercialize this prototype battery and increase the conversion efficiency of mass-market solar cells (currently 21.6%).

Matsushita also plans to reduce solar cell production costs by 20%. It will achieve this goal by producing and using more non-Japanese production components at a new plant in Malaysia.
