President of EDF said that nuclear power is irreplaceable for clean energy

He said that many people think that clean energy such as wind power and water can replace nuclear energy, but the fact is that many countries do not have the natural conditions for the development of wind power and water power.

Proglio said that other factors such as high costs also limit other clean energy alternatives to nuclear power. For example, he said that although the French electric power company has advanced hydropower R & D capabilities, but if you want to use water and electricity to completely replace France's nuclear power plants, may require more than 1 trillion euros of huge investment.

Regarding the safety of nuclear power plants that are of public concern, Progelio said that after the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan, the French power company further strengthened its security measures.

As a giant in the global nuclear power industry, EDF currently operates 19 nuclear power plants in France, including 58 nuclear reactors, which are responsible for more than 80% of the electricity supply in France.
