This film is an organic semiconductor created from inexpensive carbon-rich molecules and plastics that can compete with silicon-based semiconductor counterparts. A few days ago, researchers from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus (UNL) and Stanford University co-founded this organic transistor, and its transmission speed was more than five times faster than the previous product.
The researchers made a minor adjustment to standard organic semiconductor production techniques and eventually acquired this new product. In general, they made the organic film by depositing the carbon-rich molecules and a plastic as a supplement, in a dissolved state, into a rotating disk to press a very thin coating. In the ongoing new production process, they cross the plate faster and only spread a small area.
Through this manufacturing process, organic molecules get a more dense concentration in a more regular queue, allowing the charge to pass at a faster rate and at a faster speed of 5 times. This technique is called "centrifugal spin coating" and was published in Nature Communications. It is believed that the new technology will have the potential to generate a large number of cheap, high-performance electronic devices based on transparent substrates, enabling technologies such as giant screens to achieve more exciting naked-eye visual effects.
