Beijing Keju Chemical has developed a water-free, low-density, flame-retardant semi-rigid composite material that can be used in the production of components such as automobile engine hoods, outside front walls, and passageways. The characteristics of this composite material product are its low density (10~ 20kg/m3), outstanding sound insulation and heat insulation, flame retardant, low VOC. Lightweight, green, comfortable and safe are the three major themes for the development of automotive materials in China. PU foam is a key material for realizing lightweight automotive materials. Reducing the density of PU foam is an important technical approach to achieving lightweighting of automobiles. At the same time, the unique sound-absorbing properties of PU foam can improve ride comfort.

The traditional automobile industry uses glass wool as a sound-absorbing and heat-insulating material. In the glass wool, the glass dust is easily diffused into the air. With the improvement of the quality of life, people have higher and higher requirements for the comfort and environmental protection of automobiles. The PU foam has excellent sound absorption performance, is easy to be molded, and is safe and environmentally friendly. The automotive industry has selected polyurethane foam as an alternative material to glass wool.

As we all know, low density will bring a series of negative effects on products, such as shrinkage of products, burning core, poor rigidity and insufficient toughness.
