LANXESS released PBT alloy material for new electric vehicle battery parts

Recently, LANXESS, a specialty chemical supplier, has released a new PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) alloy material, the PocanAF4130, for battery parts for electric vehicles. It is reported that the new composite alloy material was jointly developed by LANXESS and HELLA. It has extremely low warpage and high flame retardancy. It has been applied to a German small car loading battery management unit (BMU). ) and the housing of the dual battery detection unit (CMU).

The alloy of PBT and acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylate copolymer (ASA) contains 30% glass fiber and a halogen-based flame retardant. “The special advantage of PocanAF4130 material is that it has extremely low warpage and shrinkage, and high flame retardancy. Low deviation, excellent stability

The BMU and CMU housings have a large flat surface with complex edges and internal geometry. Thanks to the innovative design, the BMU and CMU housings enable individual parts to be injection molded, saving costs. When the housing is mounted on the PCB, the connector pins cannot be bent. Therefore, the dimensional tolerances between the connector connector and the pin jack must be small. UL945VA and ULf1 certification

According to the UL94 fire test results of the American Safety Testing Laboratory, the LANXESS PocanAF4130 material has achieved the best V-0 (0.75mm) rating, which fully meets the strict requirements of the German small car lithium battery system application. Secondly, the material is UL-approved and meets the UL945VA (1.5mm) flame retardant rating and can be applied to injection molded parts of flame-retardant housing parts. In addition, it is ULf1 certified for use in outdoor applications where UV and water are resistant. “More than that, our composite alloy materials can also be used on electronic components such as photovoltaic plugs, sockets, etc.” added Marc Marbach.

Low volatility and emissions within the allowable range

This composite alloy material is highly resistant to media commonly used in automobiles, such as fuels, lubricants, detergents and maintenance products. To this end, LANXESS has conducted a wide range of media storage tests for Hella, and the results show that the material meets the LV124 standard supply specifications recognized by many car manufacturers. In addition, this composite alloy material also exhibits good resistance to electrolytes commonly used in lithium batteries. “In addition, we performed load tests in accordance with DIN EN 22088-3. The results showed that the samples did not show significant cracks even after 1,000 hours of exposure,” says Marc Marbach.
