Soitec Photovoltaic Panel Lights Up French Champs Avenue

The Champs Elysées lit up the Christmas lights, which became France’s first “zero energy consumption” lighting fixtures. Semiconductor material maker Soitec (EPA: SOI) uses its Themis concentrating photovoltaic equipment to generate 31,000 kW of power for these lighting devices.

Soitec installed 26 trackers at its solar plant in Targassonne, Pyrénées, which can supply 285 MW annually. Throughout the 40 days, Soitec will provide all the power needed for the lighting of the Champs-Elysées.

Soitec chairman and CEO André-Jacques Auberton-Hervé explained: “We are very proud to participate in this “zero energy consumption” Christmas lighting event. This is the first time the Christmas lights have used solar power. We participated in this event. The move is in line with our commitment to sustainable development and support for the development of the French solar industry."
